Hot Kids in Cars, Hot MSers, Dental Surgery

It has finally returned to Seattle weather, nice and cool. I really need a new lap top, this one is too hot on my lap. (and yes, I have it on an anti-heat device, helps but not enough)

Bear with me today I'm going to try and use two hands to type.

The news reported last night about kids dying when left in hot cars. Every summer this issue is covered on the news. Now the big researcher 'find' is that kids get hotter faster than adults. Gee. brilliant, never could have guessed that. Next some expert will say fat people get hotter faster than average weight people.

After the words "researchers" and "experts," I believe the credentials of why they are so named should be included. When you go to a MS clinic now, someone will give you a card that reads "MS Specialist." Know what that means? NOTHING. They work in a  place that sees MS patients. Take them aside and ask them if they make more money for the title, hear them roar with laughter.

Back to my point here, a researcher says to put your cell phone "...or purse..." back where your kid is, so you will have your priorities straight thereby never FORGETTING YOUR CHILD.

In 1977, I drove to my friend's apt. on a hot Indiana summer day. There was a kid screaming somewhere. I started for her front door and saw HER infant son in his car seat, windows closed, door locked. He was bright red, DRENCHED in sweat. I shouted for her and she ran out. Her excuse was she forgot him because she had unloaded the groceries. Oh, that is a good reason. She married too young, neither she nor her husband were good parents. She took on a babysitting job during the day. I watched in horror as she beat a kid for dropping some cereal. We did not stay friends much longer.
I always thought that after she grew up, in later years, she and I might be friends again, but she died before that day came.

Now, about heat and multiple sclerosis---it screws us up. Shuts me down completely. And all the researchers, experts, and specialists, have no idea why. Personally, it seems rather simple, I mean, don't we all get a bit lethargic in hot weather? DUH, but MS EXPERTS feel they must compare it to electrical wires with insulation being worn off...I worked for the electric company for 18 years and that whole electrical wire bit, is just so lame. REALLY, after 100 years that STILL is the best example you can give? Actually a fire would be started in the electrical wire scenario. Is there fire inside us? Why not tell us to take aspirin? I DO. When the temps rise I hit the Bayer. Always helps. I also drink extra water, have four fans directly on me (two blowing air from lake in), and dress in as little as my sanity allows. I keep my computer off, my TV off, anything that makes heat. I eat only cold food. My exercise is put off until temps cool. Just common sense for anyone.

Thursday my partner had a 5 hour dental surgery. (No, her %^&* sister did not call, email, or as usual, give a damn---I really hope the day comes when I can tell that sister EXACTLY what I think of her. And I thought my brothers were bad. HA! At least they don't PRETEND to care.)  They worked on much of her mouth. Still more to be done, but we thought 5 hours was the max to be "under" general anesthesia, especially with her past history of having trouble going under and coming back. ( They had mentioned TWELVE HOURS) But these were good (IE, expensive) doctors and all went flawlessly. YEA.

Now we are healing, relaxing, cooling off, and looking forward to the week ahead. Can you believe it is almost Sept.???
